DNC and campaign emails: Guccifer 2.0 and DC Leaks
Alleged: Reported or claimed; not established in the public record.
Stolen emails and documents from Democratic Party committees and a presidential campaign were released online under the names Guccifer 2.0 and DC Leaks. In July 2018 the US Justice Department indicted 12 Russian military intelligence officers over the intrusions.
Confirmed
The indictment, announced 13 July 2018, is public. It says the defendants, in GRU Units 26165 and 74455, registered the DCLeaks domain and created the Guccifer 2.0 persona. Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein said he had no evidence that the hacking changed the outcome of the election.
Claimed, disputed or not established
The officers have not been tried and the attribution rests on the prosecutors' account. An indictment is an allegation until proven.
Reported impact
Sanctions, a major political controversy and a continuing dispute over how much the releases mattered.
