Greece’s Predator spyware scandal
Alleged: Reported or claimed; not established in the public record.
A Greek court convicted four people linked to the marketing of the Predator spyware, which was used to target 87 people including ministers, military officials and journalists. The BBC reported that one in three of the dozens targeted had also been under legal surveillance by Greece’s intelligence service, EYP.
Documented
The convictions are for misdemeanours. The judge said the defendants appear to have acted with “unknown third parties”, possibly including Greek and foreign intelligence officials, and sent the records to the Athens prosecutor.
Claimed, disputed or not established
No government officials have been charged. Critics allege a cover-up; the EYP link to Predator itself is not established in the source opened.
