UK orders Huawei out of 5G networks by 2027
Unknown: Unresolved; no claim is made.
On 14 July 2020 the UK banned the purchase of new Huawei 5G equipment after 31 December 2020 and ordered all Huawei 5G kit removed by the end of 2027. GOV.UK says the decision followed a technical review by the National Cyber Security Centre in response to US sanctions. The NCSC says a May 2020 US sanction caused it to modify its security mitigation strategy for Huawei.
Documented
The government statement and NCSC summary give the supply-risk reasoning tied to the US sanction.
Claimed, disputed or not established
The US alleges Huawei poses a national security risk. The sources opened show a supply-security decision, not a public finding of wrongdoing by Huawei; the BBC notes other political considerations. Huawei called the move “bad news for anyone in the UK with a mobile phone” and China’s ambassador called it “disappointing and wrong”.
