Saudi Cables
Alleged: Reported or claimed; not established in the public record.
WikiLeaks began publishing what it said were more than 500,000 Saudi foreign ministry documents, with about 60,000 posted at first. The Associated Press said it could not immediately verify the documents.
Confirmed
The AP verified a handful of documents by phone and noted WikiLeaks's track record with large leaks of government material.
Claimed, disputed or not established
A Saudi spokesperson said many were fabricated "in a very obvious manner" but did not directly deny authenticity. The total size and the origin are as claimed by the publisher.
Reported impact
The Saudi government warned against sharing the material; coverage described a rare view of Saudi diplomacy.
Source strength: Authenticity was only partly checked by reporters, and the Saudi position is ambiguous.
