Jonathan Pollard, a former Navy intelligence analyst, was arrested on 21 November 1985 after trying to gain asylum at the Israeli Embassy in Washington. He pleaded guilty in 1986 to conspiracy to commit espionage and was given a life sentence in 1987. He was released on parole in November 2015 with a requirement to stay in the United States for five years.
