Lillehammer: Mossad kills the wrong man
Verified: Documented in primary records or confirmed by reputable inquiry/reporting.
On 21 July 1973 a team of Israeli agents shot dead Moroccan waiter Ahmed Bouchikhi in the Norwegian resort of Lillehammer. Five were convicted and jailed in Norway. In 1996 Israel agreed to compensate his family without taking responsibility, and in 2000 a Norwegian commission concluded Mossad acted without Norwegian help.
Documented
The Guardian (2000) and JTA (1996) report the convictions, the compensation, and Israel’s refusal to take responsibility. JTA says the payment was a “humanitarian gesture”.
Claimed, disputed or not established
Why the team targeted him is not set out in the sources opened here beyond JTA’s statement that he was mistakenly killed by the Mossad.
