Bundestag NSA inquiry: BND selectors and monitoring of allies
Verified: Documented in primary records or confirmed by reputable inquiry/reporting.
A German parliamentary inquiry presented its final report on 28 June 2017 on US spying in Germany and Germany’s spying on its allies. Investigators found the BND had cooperated with the NSA and kept tabs on allies, using “selectors”, search terms for dragnet surveillance.
Documented
DW reports the report runs to more than 1,800 pages and found the German government often “looked the other way” on US drone-related claims, an accusation the inquiry said was never proven.
Claimed, disputed or not established
Deutsche Welle describes the report as containing little consensus among parties. Findings differ by party and are not summarised further here.
