Khashoggi killing: former deputy intelligence chief tried and released
Saudi prosecutors said then-deputy intelligence chief Ahmed al-Asiri had ordered Khashoggi's repatriation from Turkey; the Riyadh court tried him and released him for insufficient evidence. Five others were sentenced to death. The trial was held behind closed doors, and a UN investigator called the verdict a 'mockery' of justice.

US intelligence assessment of the Khashoggi killing
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence released a declassified assessment that the Crown Prince approved an operation to 'capture or kill' Khashoggi. It is an intelligence judgment, not a court finding. The Saudi Foreign Ministry 'completely rejects' it; the US Treasury sanctioned al-Asiri and the Rapid Intervention Force.
