Regeni case: Italian court convicts three Egyptian security officials
A Rome court sentenced three Egyptian officials in absentia to 10 years for the aggravated kidnapping of Giulio Regeni in 2016; Reuters names one, Major Magdi Sharif, as from Egypt's General Intelligence. A fourth defendant was acquitted and a murder-conspiracy accusation against Sharif was dismissed. Egypt denies state involvement.

Reported GIS ownership of private media stakes
Mada Masr, citing eight sources (most anonymous), reported that Eagle Capital, a private-equity fund it says is owned by the GIS, became sole owner of Egyptian Media Group (ONtv, Youm7) and held almost half of CBC's shares. The cited page does not confirm ownership officially.
